Biography of Jeffrey T James

Jeffrey T James was born and raised in Springfield, Ohio. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Wright State University, where he focused on sculpture. After teaching and working as an assistant at Rosewood Fine Arts Center in Kettering, he was the Director of the Ceramics at Middletown Fine Arts Center until he relocated back to Springfield. Currently Jeff exhibits his work throughout Ohio.

For the past several years Jeff’s focus has been sculptures in polymer clay, but his wife describes him as a Renaissance man due to his interest in various mediums. Jeff’s first gallery exhibit in Yellow Springs showcased his scrimshaw. His pottery has been displayed at the Great Lakes Medieval Faire and the Ohio Renaissance Festival. Over years he has become a skilled craftsman in leatherwork, sewing, knife making, wire wrapping, mold making and casting. Frequently Jeff incorporates his multi-media experience into his works.

Jeff’s is inspired by mythos and tribal societies. He is drawn to monolithic forms, ancient alphabets and petroglyphs. He strives to capture the gesture of his characters in his figurative sculptures. The musicians are not just frozen in position, but are in the processes of creating. His dragons take flight and his goblins are ornery.
